Sustainability in eyewear

Did you know that sustainability can even extend to your eyewear? Choose our eco lenses for a more sustainable future.

An eco-sustainable lifestyle means helping the environment in all that you do. Now that can even extend to your eyewear.

In conjunction with Earth Day, Divel Italia has set a goal of conveying our commitment to the crucial issues of sustainability and the environment. These efforts have begun recently but are destined to keep increasing over time.

With the growing focus on and market demand for “green” products and production processes, we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of all our production facilities and, above all, to researching, developing and producing lenses and solar filters that make use of increasing levels of biosourced materials and eco-sustainable byproducts, thereby enhancing the environmental sustainability of our products and production processes. In recent years, our company philosophy has become environmentally friendly, as can be seen in our products, our packaging, and even in our post-production projects (e.g. recycling and waste management).

Following the various experiments and projects pursued in 2019 regarding lens waste, at MIDO 2020 we launched the first eco-sustainable lens with the creation of GREEN LINE, our eco-collection featuring the first lenses made of ECO-NYLON.

Since then, we have increasingly invested in the study of environmentally friendly materials so that our products can make a significant contribution to achieving our objectives.

By using ecological raw materials and production methods that take advantage of energy savings or mass balance to produce our eco-sustainable collections of sun filters and corrective lenses, we have taken major steps towards protecting the environment aimed at reducing the carbon emissions of our production processes. In the summer of this year, we launched our Gaia Eco Lens to produce the first sustainable corrective lens, which reduces carbon emissions by 5 times by using 82% bio-sustainable materials.

At Divel Italia, in our continued pursuit of these efforts, we’ve recently developed a new material for our GREEN LINE collection: POLYCARBONATE Eco, an extremely lightweight, versatile product that is ideally suited to meeting your every need in terms of quality and environmental sustainability, because it is made using recycled material and mass balance.

Our POLYCARBONATE Eco is an excellent solution for a high-performance product that is lightweight, versatile, and durable, while also respecting the environment’s natural cycles.

The use of second-generation renewable resources minimizes:

  • Waste in both production and post-production
  • Carbon emissions (an estimated 61% less for every kg of eco-PC produced)
  • Consumption of fossil-based materials (an estimated 35% less than other products)
  • Production of new plastic (thanks to the mix and reuse of Pe/PP/PET, etc.)

POLYCARBONATE Eco is ISCC PLUS certified for the sustainability and traceability of the materials used in the place of petroleum-based materials.

This certification represents an important step in our fight against climate change. In fact, DIVEL ITALIA is one of the first companies in Europe to obtain ISCC PLUS certification for all our production sites. This certification attests to the sustainability and traceability of our products throughout the production cycle and enables everyone involved to enjoy a sustainable product from certified suppliers.

An eco-sustainable lifestyle means helping the environment in all that you do. Now that can even extend to your eyewear.
